Jakarta Wins Diving Gold to Increase Medal Lead at PON XX

Jakarta sea diver athlete, Suci Indah Sari Istuni Utami brought home a gold medal in the Women's Underwater Orientation M Course at PON XX, Papua.

She expressed her happiness that her hard work for two years was not in vain. The hard work was done considering her strong rival, one of which was a female athlete from West Java who was a gold medal holder at PON XIX, West Java in 2016. However, she had to be lifted to the surface after exceeding the stipulated time limit.

"It's an amazing experience for me and so grateful to get my first gold. Moreover, my rival is more senior and experienced than me," she expressed, in Yos Sudarso Bay, Jayapura.

Her partner in the OBA Jakarta Diving Team, Rokhandi Yusuf disclosed, her biggest rival in this competition was from West Papua. However, the West Papuan athlete exceeded the time and failed to score.

"Only Jakarta's female athletes succeed," he stated.

Jakarta POSISI Secretary, Choirul Aminuddin said, Jakarta has collected a total of eight gold. The day before, his athletes won seven gold from the men's 6000-meter swimming and finswimming.

He explained that the marine diving sport competed in a total of eight events that ran over four days, from October 11 to 14.

"Our opportunity to add gold is still open. Utami and Yusuf will compete at the Five Points number in Yos Sudarso Bay, Thursday tomorrow," he said.
